Here we go…

Three little words that have never been more terrifying. A dear friend uses this phrase whenever we’re starting something; in the locker room before our workout, walking to our cars to go to work, or any new experience really. So it only seemed fitting that they would be the first three words I use to begin this journey. So Grit, Grace, & Pearls – here we go!

As a marketer, I’m always asking people “what are your goals”, “why are you doing this”, “what are you hoping to accomplish” or my personal fave “are you trying to achieve something or just doing it to do it?”. And honestly, I can’t answer any of those questions for GG&P. At this point all I’ve got is I wanted to create a space to share my thoughts, my struggles, my accomplishments, my tears, my laughs, just my messy, real, authentic life. And maybe encouraging a person or two along the way. At the end of the day, I’m doing this for me – where it goes, only God knows. Although I’d love for him to tell me sooner rather than later, but that’s another post.

So what makes this different from any other lifestyle blog out there? Nothing. Except it’s me. And I can promise you what you read will be real, raw, genuine, and authentic. I am messy. And broken. So, so broken. But this messy brokenness has given me the grit I need to not only survive, but thrive in life. So has grace. This one is a little harder for me. Ok, a lot harder. I can give grace to anyone else, and do so freely. Anyone except myself. I struggle with giving myself grace, and struggle more with freely accepting the grace that’s been given to me through Jesus. The grit in my life has made me a doer, an achiever, a striver of perfection, and the ultimate people pleaser. But grace is the opposite of all of that, so it’s an interesting tension I live in. And then there are the pearls. As your basic, classic prepster, I love pearls. All shapes, all sizes. But pearls don’t shine and get to be pearls without the grit of sand. So Grit, Grace, & Pearls – I guess this is a reflection on what’s gotten me here and what will get me where I’m going. With some pictures and posts about pretty things because, honestly, what doesn’t go well with a set of pearls?
